AFC Telford boss set to up the pace

AFC Telford boss Liam Watson will urge his team to push the pace in training tonight following Tuesday's FA Trophy defeat at home to Worcester City.

The Bucks chief branded his team's first-half display in midweek as the worst he has seen since taking over the managerial reins at the New Bucks Head in early May.

And he was particularly scathing about the speed with which they played in the game's opening third.

Watson's players will return to training tonight ahead of Saturday's Skrill North home clash with Leamington – a match which will be the Bucks' 500th competitive game.

And Watson said: "Obviously we need a tough session, we need to train at a tempo and we certainly need to turn round and play at a tempo.

"Certainly the first half-an-hour against Worcester we were so off the pace it was untrue. Fair play to Worcester they have taken advantage of that and got themselves in the next round of the FA Trophy.

"In the two big cup competitions, we have probably managed to throw in our worst two performances of the season, one on Tuesday and one against Hednesford in the FA Cup.

"In the league we have been relatively steady and consistent and we need to bounce back with nothing less than three points on Saturday."

Tuesday's 3-0 defeat, in which they shipped all three goals in eight first-half minutes, snapped a run of three straight wins at home for the Bucks.

And Watson added that his side must get their impressive home record back on track starting this weekend.

Leamington, currently eight places and 14 points behind the Bucks, will be underdogs on Saturday, especially given that they have only won two of eight matches on the travels in the league so far.

But Watson said: "We should be beating anyone in our league at home. No one should come here with us thinking a point is a good enough result.

"Obviously you will have games where you will drop points, but with the players we have got and where we are in the league we should be looking to beat anybody that comes here."
