Adam Farrell has motivation for AFC Telford
AFC Telford United striker Adam Farrell has further drive to keep up the good work for the Bucks with the impending return of Andy Owens from injury.
Fortune smiled on Farrell and frowned on Owens at Brackley Town in their last away Skrill Conference North fixture just before the half-hour.
Owens had notched his first competitive goal for the club minutes before he pulled up with a hamstring injury, forcing his replacement and two weeks out of action.
Farrell came on to see out the 1-1 draw and started the next three games, scoring in each fixture including a wonder strike in the 6-0 win FA Trophy win over Scarborough Athletic.
Strike partner Tony Gray netted a penalty in the same tie, so all three forwards have a goal from their last match played going into tomorrow's trip to Barrow.
Farrell said: "It's good to be back in the team, Andy getting injured gave me my chance and to get injured so soon after scoring his first goal is pretty tough.
"It's always good to score goals, although the team winning is the most important thing. Hopefully, I can continue as I have been doing of late.
"Tony has been playing well, he's been creating chances for himself and others, so you can't really take him out, at the minute.
"I didn't think he was as good as he is on the ball, his awareness and control is brilliant and I really enjoy playing with him.
"It was good for Tony to get a goal last weekend and, hopefully, the two of us can go on a bit of a run together now.
"We will need to if we are to keep Andy out of the team. To get injured so soon after scoring his first goal is pretty tough and he is a good player.
"We are pretty similar players, so it's 50-50 as to who the gaffer picks. It's great that we are all off the mark now and, striking wise, there's real quality.
"You have got to be on top form to keep your place."
Farrell believes the resounding nature of an emphatic trophy win was merely a case of the team taking their chances, compared the midweek visit of Vauxhall Motors.
He got the goal early on in a one-goal victory that night that could have been by a bigger margin and the 23-year-old has urged his team-mates to show no mercy.
He said: "The 6-0 was going to come to somebody soon enough and, hopefully, we can keep that sort of form. We need to score lots of goals and we are capable of doing it.
"In the Vauxhall game, we won 1-0 and, with one mistake, it would have cost us two points. With the amount of chances we had in the first-half, we should have put it to bed.
"A better team could have nicked a goal there, that's why we need to be more clinical."
Barrow are fourth-bottom ahead of tomorrow's game, despite coming down from the league above with Telford at the end of last season.
It's a situation that cost manager Dave Bayliss his job, with former Buck Alex Meechan taking charge in a caretaker role and now against his former club.
But Telford have avoided defeat in five out of seven fixtures on the road and, after three straight home wins in succession, will be full of beans.
Farrell said: "We have been solid away from home, most of the time. If we are on form, we should be better on the day, with the quality that we have got in our squad.
"We will be looking to continue our run, put pressure on them and get as many goals as we can."
