AFC Telford result could influence Barrow job
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson believes tomorrow's result at Barrow will decide whether opposite number Alex Meechan gets the job permanently.
Watson pits his wits against former Bucks favourite Meechan, who is in caretaker charge of the Bluebirds, at Holker Street in the Skrill Conference North.
Meechan took over the reins earlier this month when Dave Bayliss departed and has yet to experience defeat in his four matches at the helm, with three draws.
Watson watched Barrow's 3-2 FA Trophy win at Stockport on Tuesday night and believes his side's input into the crunch clash will hold the key to Meechan's future.
The Telford boss said: "It won't be an easy game, they have had a little unbeaten run and but it's one we have got to look at in a positive manner. We should be looking to win it.
"This is huge for them, I think the result will dictate whether the caretaker manager has got a chance of getting the job."
Watson reckons it's unlikely Barrow will hand the role to an inexperienced boss permanently which would rule out Meechan, who is in full control for the first time.
The Telford chief thinks another former Buck, Vauxhall Motors manager Carl Macualey, could be the man for the job if tomorrow's hosts opt for proven know-how.
He said: "I think, if they don't beat us, they might look to give it to someone who is experienced. If they win, it might force their hand a bit. It will be interesting to see.
"I would surprised if they gave the job to a manager with no experience. It's nothing to do with me, but I think Carl Macualey is the outstanding candidate.
"I think he would leave Vauxhall for a bigger club and Carl played for Barrow for three years."
Striker Andy Owens is touch and go for Telford after two weeks out with a hamstring problem and, at best, will be on the bench.
Defender Dan Preston has just completed a one-month loan at Barrow but is carrying a slight foot injury, so will be assessed.
Winger Sean Clancy is set to recover from a groin tweak to play while Watson must decide between Sean Cooke, Robbie Booth and Mike Phenix on the left.
