Alan Moogan is on the road to recovery for AFC Telford

AFC Telford boss Liam Watson says the impending return of player-coach Alan Moogan will be "like a new signing."

Moogan, 29, has been sidelined since late August with a double hernia. But he is now on the mend following surgery and should be back in time for the busy Christmas period.

Watson said: "I spoke to Alan yesterday and he is in good spirits. Hopefully he will be back playing in four to six weeks. Having him back will be like having a new signing.

"He's an important player and it just reinforces the squad for the run in."

Following keyhole surgery, Watson added that the influential former Everton trainee should be able to start working his way back towards fitness within a couple of days.

But he added that there were no guarantees that Moogan will walk straight back into his starting XI upon his return.

Watson said: "They have all got a fight on their hands to get in the team which is what you want. You don't want the side picking itself."
