Dominic Morley happy for AFC Telford to share goals

AFC Telford United players have been told to spread the goals around the team as they look to threaten as an attacking unit from all areas.

The Bucks are sitting on the sidelines in a two-week enforced break, due to their FA Cup exit, and are next in action at Stockport County in seven days time.

Four-goal Sean Clancy – all in the first four games – is Telford's current top-scorer, while Adam Farrell and Mike Phenix have three, the latter's crop all coming from the bench.

Defenders Neill Byrne and captain Simon Grand have also found the net this season, while striker Tony Gray has been on target twice.

No-one is blazing a trail, but all have weighed in here and there – and assistant boss Dominic Morley believes that could be a secret to success.

He said: "You need five or six scorers in your team, three of four in the forward positions and a couple of centre-halves chipping in with goals from set plays.

"If you have one threat and they get injured, suspended or are out of form, then you are struggling. But if a few are helping out, then you will be OK.

"When you are on a purple patch, that might dry up and then someone's else needs to come along, that's the way we look at it. Goals need to be spread out across the team. You can't just rely on the same lads."

Clancy has gone off the boil, goal wise, since winning the August Skrill Conference North Player of the Month award, while Gray hadn't netted since the opening day of the season before last weekend.

Morley said: "Last weekend was a big goal for Tony and, hopefully, there will be more to come from him.

"He's done this before, he may go on a bit of a run now."
