Russell Benjamin targets net gain for AFC Telford

New AFC Telford signing Russell Benjamin is aiming for a net gain this season after being ordered to be more selfish in front of goal.

Bucks boss Liam Watson rates the former Southport central midfielder highly but would like to see the 22-year-old go for goal more often when the opportunity arises.

Benjamin put in some impressive displays as he made 27 appearances for the Sandgrounders last season, albeit without finding the target.

And it's an area of the game he recognises he can improve. He said: "I am more of an attacking midfielder.

"I like to drive at players, passing and slipping people through, that is my game.

"I spoke to Liam and he has told me that sometimes I need to be a bit more selfish for the good of the team, to get some more goals."

Benjamin is keeping his goal target to himself, but his ultimate aim for the forthcoming campaign will simply be to help lead the Bucks back to the non-league's top-flight.

He said: "That is the only thing I am looking for really, to see if we can get promoted. And I think it's realistic with the players that we have."
