AFC Telford loanee Simon Ford in Grimsby recall

Defender Simon Ford has had his loan at AFC?Telford cut short after being recalled by Grimsby Town for their play-off challenge.

Ford, 31, was brought to the New Bucks Head at the end of February to help add experience to the Bucks' defence.

The deal though included a 24-hour recall which the Mariners have activated today after last night's 2-1 win over Dartford confirmed their Blue Square Bet Premier season will be extended.

Grimsby spokesman Dale Ladson said: "The decision was made today. We are short on players, we have got injuries to key defenders and the play-offs coming up."

The move appears to leave already-relegated AFC Telford short on cover at the back.

The Bucks have been without left-back Ryan Valentine as well as centre-back Dan Preston in recent weeks because of groin and back injuries respectively.

Fellow centre-back Michael Briscoe is also out of contention for the last two games of the season after injuring his leg against Dartford last weekend.

Assistant manager Alex Meechan admitted that Ford's return to Grimsby was not ideal but added: "I will speak to the manager, John Psaras, later today.

"We will go through what limited options we have got."

Meanwhile, the club will hold its second comedy and curry night at the New Bucks Head tonight.

The event starts at 8pm in the Learning Centre. Tickets are £10.
