Michael Briscoe sets his sights on new AFC Telford contract
Michael Briscoe today stressed his determination to enhance his claims for a new contract at AFC Telford in the final weeks of the season.
The experienced centre-half has only recently re-emerged after a six-month injury lay-off, with his experience proving an invaluable addition to an under-fire back four.
But with a major overhaul of the New Bucks Head squad on the cards over the summer, Briscoe admits he will have his work cut out convincing a new manager he is worth a new deal.
"I have got to keep myself fit, hopefully push on and get a contract for next season," said the defender. "If you haven't played all season what manager would want to take you on to be honest? But I am just pleased to be out there playing 90 minutes, giving it my all and I will see what happens at the end of the season."
The 29-year-old has done well to even make the closing games after he limped out of the home clash with Lincoln City last September complaining of a persistent back injury.
He underwent surgery before Christmas, but has faced a long rehabilitation and former boss Andy Sinton had even ruled him out from his plans.
But Briscoe added: "There was never any point at which I felt this season might be a complete write-off. When I injured my back pre-season time I had an epidural and came back to play three games.
"But I didn't feel right and that's when I was told I would have to have the operation. I've always been a positive person, though, so I knew I wasn't out for the season even though there was talk of it."
