Blog: An unwanted record is made for AFC Telford
Outright record holders – unfortunate but symptomatic of AFC Telford's season in the Blue Square Premier, writes blogger Rob Hughes.
For too long, we just haven't been good enough.
Even at 2-1 up, goalkeeper Ryan Young was still our Man of the Match, doing everything in his power to keep us in front, and also being supported with some last ditch clearances off the line.
Since John Psaras has been at the helm, you cannot fault the commitment shown by those selected and he had the intelligence to make effective tweaks that have had, at the very least, a temporary impact on the field of play.
Games and seasons are epitomised by turning points though and at 2-1 up, the Aaron Williams one on one, once again demonstrated our difficulties.
Not being able to finish a side off, not doing enough to get ourselves over the finish line. 3-1, you really have to believe it would have been game over and a win under our belt.
As it was, the ball went down the other end, Lincoln equalised and there was only ever going to be one winner. Cruel, yet expected.
Good to see the youngsters coming through, being given the chance to be involved in the match day squad, which indicates lessons are being learnt in that department.
Just now it's a case of finding the right man to mould us a side that can play an attractive brand of attacking football, an attractive brand of entertaining football and an attractive brand of winning football! Guess we don't want a lot as supporters, eh?
My eyes are already being drawn towards next season and the beginning of a new era. What happens between now and the end of the season though simply has to be a mission in salvaging pride.
The last thing I want, with our history against Nuneaton Borough since our reformation, is having them as the team that relegate us. Defeat against them would confirm that.
Relegation has been confirmed in many people's eyes, but for it to be made official courtesy of an Andy Brown goal or a Gavin Cowan header would add to the hurt we are all feeling.
For me, a nucleus of seven including the youngsters would form a squad of around 20 for next season. Individuals that will be hurting, but have enough to overcome this seasons' failings.
A fresh leadership, hungry semi-professionals - not more ex-league journeymen with little heart for a fight when the going will inevitably get tough!
Saying that though, that's where we need to strike the right balance, the balance that wasn't really found at any point this season.
One thing we need to do next weekend, in the home fixture with Nuneaton is really turn up in our numbers, without season ticket news.
The next best thing we can do is really go out there in our droves and show prospective managers the sort of support he can count on, should he land the managers' job for next season.
Hopefully, this white stuff can disappear and we can get in a 2,000 plus attendance – despite our ongoing trials and tribulations!
Remember the tough times will help make the successes all the more sweet! And we don't get a lot tougher than how things are at the moment.
So come on Telford, unite and back your club, AFC Telford United!
