AFC Telford boss battles to avoid grim statistic
AFC Telford caretaker manager John Psaras is out to break a painful winless streak when his team face fellow Blue Square Premier strugglers Lincoln City.
But it is not just the Bucks' dismal 26-match league run which will be his main focus at Sincil Bank tomorrow.
If the Bucks fail to beat Lincoln, they will set a new Conference Premier record for the longest winless run – eclipsing AP Leamington's 31-year-old record which they equalled with defeat against Macclesfield in midweek.
Psaras, who took over the managerial reins from previous caretaker boss Graham Hyde 11 days ago, is frustrated not to have won any of his three games in charge. And that statistic is his motivation.
Asked if the prospect of avoiding a divisional record could be used as inspiration tomorrow, he said: "I am on a three-game run without a victory.
"That hurts me, that we haven't won in three games. I am not even looking at the 26 games. For me I want to get a result tomorrow and I want to put that three-game winless run away."
Telford will start 11 points adrift at the bottom but Lincoln are also in the relegation zone, two points adrift albeit with two games more to play.
They are also on their own dismal run of form and Psaras has seen signs of improvement from his team in his three games.
The boss said: "Teams like Lincoln play in front of decent crowds and those crowds will demand something. I won't expect anything less than 100 per cent application from Lincoln."
