AFC Telford sign Christian Smith for trip to Macc
AFC Telford boss John Psaras has bolstered his squad ahead of the trip to Macclesfield by signing midfielder Christian Smith.
The Bucks caretaker manager has brought the former Port Vale, Wrexham and Chester man to the New Bucks Head for the rest of the season.
And he believes the 25-year-old, who has been playing for Evo-Stik Northern Premier League outfit Nantwich Town this season, will add some 'edge' to his midfield for the Blue Square Premier run-in.
Psaras said: "He is experienced, he has got a bit of an edge about him, he has got a goal in him and he is an aggressive tough-tackler, which is something we need to bolster our midfield options."
Smith, who played a handful of matches for Telford on trial in pre-season, could go straight into the squad for tonight's trip to Moss Rose.
Should the basement Bucks, who are winless in their last 25 league games, fail to beat Macclesfield, they would equal the Conference record winless run set by AP Leamington in 1981-82.
But Psaras has taken encouragement from his team's performances since he took over the managerial reins following the resignation of previous caretaker boss Graham Hyde.
His first game in charge saw the Bucks contain Gateshead at the New Bucks Head seven days ago, albeit without being able to deliver the decisive scoring blow in a goalless draw.
That was followed by a 5-2 defeat at Woking in which the Bucks produced an exciting attacking display, and a spirited second-half fightback.
Telford have already met the Silkmen once this month, losing 2-0 at home 10 days ago, but Psaras believes that there are advantages to playing their conquerors again so quickly.
He said: "They have got two very in-form strikers, their full-backs are a threat and it is up to us to put out a formation to nullify that."
