AFC Telford: Liam Chilvers set for talks on longer deal

AFC TELFORD boss Andy Sinton will sit down with centre-back Liam Chilvers next week to discuss a possible extension to his stay at the New Bucks Head.

Chilvers, who was expected to feature in today's visit to Alfreton, joined the Bucks on a shiort-term deal in September to help cover a defensive injury and suspension crisis.

The deal was extended for a further month at the start of October but is set to expire in the next couple of weeks.

Sinton has been impressed by the former Notts County defender's consistent displays and is keen to keep him in the squad for longer.

"We have got him for a period of time which was agreed upon but we have agreed to speak some time next week and discuss it," he said.

"Liam is getting better with each game. He's steady and he has a wealth of experience and I'd like to look at extending what we have got. I'd like to take it through until the next transfer window in December."

Chilvers, who has also appeared for Colchester United, Preston North End and Northampton Town among his former clubs, has made eight appearances for Telford since his arrival.

His performances have also earned praise from centre-back partner Jordan Rose in recent weeks.

But the injury problems which brought Chilvers to the club, remain.

Chilvers is one of only three available centre-backs alongside Dan Preston and Rose. Chris Blackburn and Michael Briscoe both remain sidelined with back injuries and right-back Will Salmon, who can also play in the middle of the back four, has an ankle injury.
