AFC Telford move a relief for winger Steven Leslie
New AFC Telford winger Steven Leslie has spoken of his relief at joining AFC Telford after a summer-long search for a new club.
The former Shrewsbury Town and Wrexham man has now set his sights on repaying manager Andy Sinton for his patience after an equally-long pursuit.
Leslie arrived at the New Bucks Head less than a week before the start of the new Blue Square Premier season, having been on Sinton's wish-list for much of the off-season following his release from Wrexham.
The 24-year old had been hoping to secure a place with a Football League club but was eventually snapped up by the Bucks earlier this month on a one-year deal.
He said: "It's been tough to get a club and towards the end I was starting to panic a little bit that I wasn't going to find one.
"But I always knew the gaffer here wanted me. I said to him at the start of the summer I would try to see if I could find a Football League club and he said ' no worries' but I am glad he's come along and he's given me this opportunity.
"It's a nice ground, nice facilities and it's a good crowd to play under.
"The gaffer has given me the chance to come here and prove myself. I haven't had many games in pre-season so it is going to take me a few more games to get fully match fit but it is down to myself to go out and show people what I can do."
He added: "I don't think there is much of a difference between the Conference and the next division up.
"The top teams in the Conference can play in the Football League. I think we will do well because we have got a good squad."
