AFC Telford midfielder Nathan Rooney has a 'big' season ahead of him, Andy Sinton believes.

The Bucks chief has been pleased with the player's early contributions having started the first three games of the Blue Square Bet Premier League season.

And he is hoping for more from the former Wolves starlet, who joined the Bucks after being released by the Molineux club last summer.

Sinton said it had taken Rooney time to find his feet in the fifth tier of English football.

But with a season's experience under his belt, the 19-year old has started the new campaign in fine form, scoring two goals in as many matches and earning himself man of the match plaudits in Saturday's 3-0 win over Braintree Town.

"It's a big season ahead for Nathan," he said.

"People think that because you have been at Aston Villa or Wolves or whatever you can just come into the Conference.

"But it's a tough league. I pick the phone up every day to managers and they will say 'oh, this kid will easily handle the conference.'

"But they don't know what is all about and it took Nathan a long, long time last year to find his feet

"I told him very early in the pre-season I was going to give him some games this year and the rest is up to him. But he has done himself no harm, he was excellent on Saturday."
