Bucks stalwart Will Salmon has laid down the gauntlet to any potential new signings, saying he will fight tooth and nail to keep his place in Andy Sinton's starting XI.

AFC Telford United's only summer signing so far is the pacy Luke Hubbins, who played most of his games for Birmingham City Reserves in Salmon's favoured position of right-back.

Salmon though, is not scared of the competition for places, and insists he will prove he is the best right-back at the club.

"The gaffer can bring in whoever he wants," the 25-year-old said.

"And I will prove that I am better than them.

"I believe I am the best right-back at the club and I will work hard to make sure that remains the case. Competition for places is healthy in any squad but in football you have to be confident and believe in your ability, and I have always believed in myself."

Salmon admits he has enjoyed the summer break, but admits it is also important to keep on top of your fitness, ahead of the return to pre-season training on June 23.

"The league is so intense you sometimes need some time off," Salmon added.

"But it's not a complete break, you have to keep your fitness ticking over. It's important to keep in shape."
