Man of the moment Phil Trainer reckons AFC Telford United can fight for a play-off berth next season.

Tuesday's goalscoring hero against Tamworth is impressed with the quality the Bucks possess within their squad, and hopes that with a few key additions the club can push on to the next level.

The 30-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but would love to extend his stay at the New Bucks Head.

He said: "I would love to stay here next season, it's a fantastic club and I am really enjoying myself here.

"We have a lot of quality in this squad and I think with a couple of tweaks here and there – and a few bodies in the right places – we can push for the play-offs

"All we need is a couple of new players with fresh ideas to help shoot us up the league.

"If you look at what (play-off chasing) Southport have managed to achieve as a part-time club this season it gives us encouragement that the gap can be bridged."

The former Oxford United man insists there's no magic formula for his knack of scoring season-defining goals.

Midfielder Trainer netted the effort that secured promotion to the Blue Square Bet Premier in last season's play-off final and on Tuesday night he was at it again with the goal that kept the Bucks in the division.

He said: "There's no secret to it and it's not as if I deliberately contrive ways to shoot more in big games.

"I just go out to do my job as I always do and if I manage to get a goal that is very much a bonus.

"Both goals were pretty special for different reasons."
