Cold snap could see off another game for AFC Telford
AFC Telford United could be facing a third consecutive postponement – with Saturday's trip to Kettering already rated as extremely doubtful.
AFC Telford United could be facing a third consecutive postponement – with Saturday's trip to Kettering already rated as extremely doubtful.
Both sides are fighting to avoid relegation from the Blue Square Premier and the Poppies are saddled with the added burden of severe financial troubles.
Telford have already seen home games with Forest Green and Kidderminster Harriers postponed in the last five days and will be even more frustrated if they cannot return to action in Northamptonshire.
The Poppies were, themselves, supposed to face Forest Green at Nene Park last night but that game was called off yesterday morning following a pitch inspection by Football League referee Andy Woolmer.
Frost covers have been on the pitch but the surface has still frozen during the cold snap, while the surrounding areas are also a concern.
And Malc Harris, the stadium manager at Nene Park, already has doubts about the weekend clash.
He said: "I would say the chances for Saturday are slim. The weather forecast for the week ahead suggests temperatures well below freezing and, if that is the case, then there will be a lot of games off again.
"We will do all we can and we will try to get the covers off to allow the pitch to see some sunshine during an afternoon or two.
"We will ask for volunteers to help us do that. But, if the forecast is right, then we will be struggling again for the weekend."
Telford are hoping to pick up only their second away league win of the season.
