AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton was today working against the clock to bring in "two or three" reinforcements before tonight's transfer deadline.

The Telford chief has already missed out on two ambitious targets, who have opted to join Football League clubs instead.

But he insists he must aim high to bring in the quality he believes the Bucks require to secure their Blue Square Bet Premier status.

"I've pretty much been on the phone all day," said Sinton.

"Two of my targets have gone to League clubs but who knows what will unfold during the day.

"It can be frustrating but there's no point at this moment in time in looking at people who are untried. I am sure we will get two or three before the day is out."

Meanwhile, new assistant manager Mike Davies has spoken of his delight at getting to team up with Sinton after replacing Darren Read as the Bucks' No 2.

Davies, 32, made his name as a coach in a successful stint at The New Saints – whom he steered to famous victories in both the Champions League and Europa League.

"I'm very excited and delighted to go to have the opportunity to go to a club as big as Telford," said Davies, who is still based in Oswestry and runs his own sports kit company.

"I had a phone call from Andy last Friday and it was one that I wasn't really expecting, but to have the opportunity to work with someone like him was something I couldn't turn down." Sinton added: "He's well thought of as a coach, he wants to be in the English system and he sees this as a step up.

"Darren has played a part in getting us where we are and remains a friend but it's a case of evolution.

"I'm sure Darren would have liked to stay in the position but he understands the reasons and there are no problems at all."
