Star striker Adam Proudlock has handed AFC Telford United an injury scare just one week away from the start of the new season.

Former Wolves ace Proudlock limped out of last night's 2-0 friendly win at Chasetown and has already been ruled out of tomorrow's Shropshire Senior Cup final with The New Saints.

The 30-year-old was taken off with a tight groin and manager Andy Sinton admits it is a worry with the big Blue Square Bet Premier kick-off against Luton Town just eight days away.

"It's a concern," said the Telford chief. "He was holding the top of his groin before he came off and I'll have to speak to the physios to assess how bad it is.

"It's just what we didn't want really, but you are very lucky if you sail through pre-season without picking up any problems.

"It's a shame but it's what you have a squad for – and we have players like Craig Farrell and Alex Meechan who can come in and get goals."

Meanwhile, Sinton has insisted that he will field the strongest side possible against the Saints tomorrow as the Bucks look to claim the Senior Cup.

Telford booked their place in the final with a 4-1 win at Market Drayton last month.

"TNS are a good side, I've seen them play a couple of times," said Sinton.

"They move the ball really well and they were a real test for us when we played them in a friendly in my first game here 14 or 15 months ago.

"It's a cup final this time and that means there's an added incentive," he added.

Centre-back Stuart Whitehead has made rapid progress from the hamstring injury that forced him off against Burton last week and he could feature.

But summer signingRobbie Williams (knee) is still a few days away from a return to full training.
