Wroexeter off the mark as the new-boys win
Wroexeter Grove skipper Rob Davies says his newly-formed side have started as they mean to go on after defeating St Georges away by two wickets in their first competitive game in the Shropshire County League Premier Division.
The club was only formed in the off-season from a merger between The Grove and Wroxeter & Uppington, the latter of which were relegated from the Premier Division last season.
The new club's first team had then been due to begin life in Division One but were moved up into the top flight after Much Wenlock announced they would not be able to field a team in the Premier Division because of a sudden player exodus.
Significant
And they survived a rocky opening spell to get off to a winning start at the weekend.
Davies said: "Hopefully we have started as we mean to go on. It does feel like a significant milestone. It was nice to get off to a winning start and St Georges finished third last season, so it was a good victory."
St Georges' South African overseas player Tylor Trenoweth (35) helped get the hosts off to an explosive start before he was caught behind off Simon Jones by Will Marner.
Sam Morgan added 51 but Wroxeter's bowlers eventually removed them for 177 in just under 45 overs., with Jon Harris (2-41), Charlie Haylett (3-26) and John Pritchard (3-43) doing the bulk of the damage before Brian Jones' knock of 80 helped ease them to their winning total with more than two overs to spare.
Will Cook and Brett Oliver were among the star performers as Worfield beat Albrighton by 76 runs.
Cook scored an unbeaten 97 as the hosts made 188-6d and then Oliver took 5-31 to help fire Albrighton out for 112.
Christopher Bolt (45) and Jason Summers (30) provided decent resistance but the rest of the team were all restricted to single figures.
Matt Cohen top-scored for Wem with 86 as they defeated Allscott at home by 199 runs.
Josh Gough (48), Martyn Davies (42) and Chris Peel (38) also chipped in as Wem posted 294-6 from their 50 overs.
Brothers Christian and Chris Starling led the bowling stats for the visitors taking 3-59 and 3-60 respectively.
Wem's Gareth Dreyer helped derail Allscott's response with the bat.
The South African took 4-13 to help remove the visitors for 95.
None of Allscott's batsmen managed more than 15 on a disappointing afternoon for the visitors.
