Former Pakistan Test cricketer Mohammad Ayub joins Shifnal
Shifnal have signed former Pakistan Test cricketer Mohammad Ayub as their overseas professional for the 2014 Birmingham & District Division One season.
The 34-year-old off-spin bowler played in one Test match against Sri Lanka in 2012 and has figured in 120 first-class matches.
Captain Tom Collins said: "He is a fantastic coup. His first-class and Test match experience will be invaluable to us this year."
Shifnal have also landed promising opening batsman Hassan Quami, 22, from Halesowen. He has been on the fringes with Leicestershire in the last couple of years.
But ex-Derbyshire batsman Dan Redfern won't be joining Shifnal as their contracted player after Leicestershire vetoed the move.
Shifnal had been hoping to add Redfern to their line-up following the departure of Shropshire skipper Richard Oliver, who has headed south to play for Reigate Priory.
But Leicestershire have introduced a new policy where all of their playing staff have to play in the Leicestershire & Rutland League, despite his strong Shropshire links.
Redfern, from Tibberton near Newport, is a former Adams Grammar School pupil and one of the youngest players ever to play List A limited overs cricket.
He made his debut for Derbyshire Phantoms in a NatWest Pro40 League match against Worcestershire in 2006, aged 16.
