The 43-year old former Middlesex and Surrey batsman, one of only 25 players to have scored 100 first-class centuries, was at Shrewsbury School to hand out prizes at the ECB Under-15s National Club Championships.

The competition was won by Harrow St Mary's, who defeated High Wycombe in the final by six wickets.

The match rounded off a dramatic day of action, which had previously seen Harrow defeat Stockton from County Durham in the first semi-final by eight wickets and High Wycombe beat Ombersley from Worcestershire by two runs in the other.

Aside from handing out the silverware, Ramprakash also spoke to the 48 players present on finals day about his own career and particularly his beginnings in the sport.

ECB competition executive Aaron Campbell said: "The players loved it. Mark did a brief welcome to them at the presentation and he spoke about his own cricket career and how it started playing junior club and county cricket."

Campbell added that it had been the first time the ECB had held the under-15s finals at Shrewsbury School.

And dozens of young cricketers will be descending on the venue again tomorrow for the first of three days of play in the under-13s version of the competition.

Former Shrewsbury School pupil and current England star James Taylor is set to hand out the prizes on Friday.
