Bridgnorth's Jono Whitney calls time on Shropshire
Bridgnorth's Jono Whitney has called time on his Minor Counties Championship career after 10 years representing Shropshire.
Whitney will play his last three-day game for the team against Dorset at his club's Cricket Meadow ground, starting on Sunday.
The 28-year-old has chosen to hang up the bat from the longer format of the game because of work and family commitments.
He took to Twitter to announce his decision, tweeting: "Due to family-work commitments the three day game this Sun-Mon-Tues at @BridgnorthCC will be my last for @shropshireccc"
He added: "It has been an absolute honour and a privilege to represent my home county for a decade."
Whitney told the Shropshire Star today that he will remain available for Shropshire's one-day Midland Counties Knockout Trophy semi-final against Hertfordshire at Harpenden Cricket Club on July 14.
That's as well as the final, should they get there. Whitney is emigrating to Australia, his girlfriend's homeland, later this year.
But the self-employed construction sub-contractor has been forced to bow out of three-day games early.
He said: "I am not going to get the time off work for three-day games. But I am still going to be available for one-day games."
Whitney made his Minor Counties debut against Herefordshire back in June 2003 and he has since gone onto play more than 80 matches for Shropshire.
