Shifnal's Richard Oliver hits 213 not out
Shropshire skipper Richard Oliver produced an incredible upturn in form at the weekend as he hit a new club record for Shifnal.
Oliver's stunning 213 not out, from 142 balls, in his side's 80-run Birmingham & District Division One win at Moseley, is the highest individual score in the club's history.
The 23-year-old had previously been dismissed for a duck in three of his previous five outings for his club and Shropshire.
And on Saturday, he was almost caught twice in the third over, taking another ball on the helmet, before hitting a rich vein of form.
"I don't really know how to explain it," he said. "I had had three ducks in five knocks before the weekend.
"And after three overs on Saturday, I had been hit on the head, had two close shaves, it had been tipping it down and I just thought 'What am I doing here?'
"But a couple of hours later I was 213 not out. I am a naturally aggressive player and I got 200 for Whitchurch a couple of years ago.
"But once I got to 140 on Saturday, I knew I had enough time if I just batted the overs to beat my previous highest score."
