Shropshire captain Richard Oliver is hungry for success
Shropshire cricket captain Richard Oliver has warned his team are hungry for silverware this year, ahead of their opening game of the season at home to Lincolnshire.
The county side will open their latest campaign tomorrow with a MCCA Knockout Trophy Group Two clash at Shrewsbury Cricket Club.
Shropshire last won the competition in 2010, beating tomorrow's opponents in the final at Chester-le Street.
It has been a longer wait since they lifted the Minor Counties Championship title, back in 1973, but Oliver sees no reason why this year's team cannot challenge on both fronts this season.
"We are hungry for success and we are ambitious, that is why we are playing," he said. "We have got a couple of good pros, some lads who have been here for a while and a few youngsters coming through, so there is a nice balance to the team.
"Hopefully we will be challenging on both fronts. We won't go into every game expecting to win but we will go into every game with the appetite to win – and we want silverware."
