The 17-year-old, who plays for Shrewsbury and has signed professional terms with Worcestershire, paved a path to a comfortable 107-run triumph by underpinning a first-innings total of 313 with an impressive unbeaten 114.

While the all-rounder managed only 17 in England's second innings 151, he picked up the winning catch as the hosts were dismissed for 163 in their second knock.

Skipper Ollie Stone and Gavin Griffiths struck with two wickets apiece to leave the Proteas, who had resumed on 66-4, tumbling to defeat.
