Shropshire cricketer Dan Redfern hits maiden First Class century

Shropshire cricketer Dan Redfern has ended his wait for a maiden First Class century.

The 21-year-old, from Tibberton, near Newport, made 110 in Derbyshire's County Championship clash with Northamptonshire yesterday.

Redfern, a former pupil at Newport's Adams Grammar School, struck 13 fours in his 143-ball innings.

He had previously made 15 half centuries but failed to go on to reach three figures.

Redfern had the honour of positing the first century of the new county season.
