Clay Flattley is Wright to partner Derek
County captain Derek Wright is one of the few who can get the best out of Clay Flattley – and it resulted in another title.
Team-mates at Whitchurch League champions Bridgewater, Wright and Flattley teamed up again to win the Mike Hinton Pairs for the first time as the curtain came down on the Furrows Shropshire Premier League season.
The Chester Road-Castlefields combination took the biggest slice of the £300 prize money by beating Dave Rhodes & Peter Grimston (Newport-SJ Bayley) 21-12 in the final at sunny Bicton.
It rounded off a good year for the tempermental Flattley, who realised a bowls dream by playing in the Champion of Champions after winning the Wolstanton Open.
Premier officials were encouraged by an entry of 18 for the MediaBox-sponsored one-dayer, the field including bowlers from the three teams who accepted invitations to take part in this season's Alan Mayhew Trophy knockout – Burway, Madeley CC and Hanwood.
Wright & Flattley brushed aside league chairman John Nash & Mark Thomas (Ford-Meole Brace) 21-9 in their semi-final while Rhodes & Grimston were seeing off Bowring captain Roy Bradburn and Steve Cox to 14.
Last year's winners Dale Rudrum & Tony Rhodes (Newport-St Georges) lost 21-10 to Rhodes & Grimston in the quarter-finals.
Other scores: Bradburn & Cox 21 S Rhodes & S Plant (St Georges) 19; J & J Partridge (Burway) 15 Nash & Thomas 21; Wright & Flattley 21 L Mumford & C Lodge (Madeley CC) 20.
Don't put your bowls away yet – that's the plea from the organisers of two events still to be played Shropshire this year.
First up is a winter competition for juniors in the SPS Whitchurch League on Sunday at the District Club (11am start) being organised by Phil Scott.
And then there's Lew Page Mixed Singles at Shrewsbury Severnside which has an official closing date of tomorrow.
Qualifying is on November 11 and 18 (11am and 1.30pm sessions) with 16 from each day to go forward to the finals on Sunday, December 2.
Entry is £6, book with Barry Jennings on 01743 351155.
