Rivals are ready for Premier bowls play-off
Burway and Hadley USC will battle it out for a place in next year's Furrows Shropshire Premier League in tomorrow's play-off final at Whitchurch.
Triple champions Burway face a near 100-mile round trip from Ludlow to Archibald Worthington for a 7.15pm start after surviving a semi-final against Hanmer that ebbed and flowed before they won by 34 shots.
But there were no such worries for Mid Shropshire League champions Hadley USC.
They handed a 66-shot drubbing to Wem League newcomers Hanwood on the new green at Prees last night, Eric Winstone the best of their 10 winners with a 21-4 card at No.8.
Burway also looked in command of their showdown with Market Drayton League champions Hanmer at Wrockwardine Wood, powering 21 up after four blocks with Kiah Roberts wining 21-4.
Yet the Welsh village club hit back and actually led by four as Daniel Hughes and stalwart Dave Ellison both won 21-8.
When it came to the crunch, however, the Ludlow, Tanners Shropshire and Stretton league champions proved too strong as Kevin Dovey (21-6) and Duncan Pressley (21-7) ended Hanmer's Premier dream.
