Red-hot Callum Wraight in hunt at Waterloo
Shropshire's premier bowler Callum Wraight chases a late birthday present tomorrow as he aims to fill the last remaining void on his glittering CV.
Wraight turned 26 on Wednesday and competes in one of the biggest tournaments on the calendar, the Champion of Champions, at Waterloo in Blackpool.
It is the Castlefields' ace seventh appearance in the competition which sees the elite prizewinners from the year doing battle in a star-studded 32-strong field.
And it is the one major title which remains missing from Wraight's collection after victories in the All England Championships, the Shropshire Merit and a host of other prestigious competitions.
Wraight enters the event in red-hot form after winning the £1,000 first prize at the Brighouse Classic in Yorkshire – one of three qualifying events he has won over the last 12 months – last weekend
He begins his quest against Ashley Daykin while his Castlefields team-mate Clay Flattley – the only other Shropshire representative in the field – takes on Ryan Prosser.
