Wolves v Southampton: A huge game in the relegation race

There is no escaping it, Wolves' clash with Southampton is huge for many reasons.

It is an opportunity to get a first win, the chance to stop a relegation-threatened rival from creating more daylight and also the moment to unite a disillusioned fan base.

On top of that, head coach Gary O'Neil is fighting for his future and may need a win to secure it.

Going into the 11th Premier League game of the season against the Saints, Wolves are just shy of a third of the way through the campaign.

Although mitigating factors give O'Neil some respite and Wolves' overall performances may deserve more than just three points, a club can only go so long without winning.

Southampton, despite picking up their first win of the season last week, are a team there for the taking and Wolves must attack them as such.

O'Neil, eager to encourage togetherness, will need a positive performance from his players and a fast start to get an enthusiastic response from the Molineux faithful.

“It’s a case of ‘come on, let’s go’, I’m going to stand up when we get to Molineux," O'Neil said.
