TNS ponder changes for league clash

The New Saints boss Craig Harrison is pondering changes to his team for tomorrow's Welsh Premier League clash with Port Talbot.

But Harrison reckons TNS just need "a bit of fine tuning" for the game at Park Hall (2.30pm).

After dropping four points in their last two outings with draws against Llandudno and Rhyl, the defending champions will be anxious to start firing on all cylinders again.

The Rhyl deadlock saw TNS slip to third in the table, four points adrift of early leaders Newtown who have won all three games.

Though unbeaten, it constitutes a frustrating start for the title favourites, but Harrison remained upbeat for the game with a side TNS have beaten in every one of their last 10 meetings.

He said: "The players are working hard, but perhaps they need to be just that bit smarter. We've been dominating possession, pushing teams but not capitalising on our chances.

"It's been a little bit disappointing that we're not creating more chances in the final third, but we're not a million miles away and it just needs a bit of fine tuning.

"Five points from three games is not the worst record in the world, but we set our standards high."

The Saints chief is pondering changes, with right-back Simon Spender set to return after missing the first three league games with an ankle injury.

He added: "I may change a few things, we'll see. We've got a strong squad and there's no point having a strong squad if you're not going to use it."

The Saints can take confidence from their past dominance against Port Talbot, having won the last 10 league meetings between the sides while scoring 45 goals and conceding just five.

But Harrison warned: "They're probably of the mindset that it's a good time to play us. They had a good win against Aberystwyth last week, so we're expecting another challenge."
