AFC Telford manager Steve Kittrick wants to get the fans smiling

New AFC Telford manager Steve Kittrick is aiming to deliver both points and a performance in his first home game at the helm against Nuneaton tomorrow.

Kittrick makes his Bucks Head bow after his appointment was confirmed last Monday. But he will relish the occasion and said: "I have always had affection for Telford during my Guiseley days.

"I am looking forward to coming back. And hopefully we can give the fans something to smile about and put some points on the table."

Telford go into the game 15 points adrift of safety at the foot of the Conference Premier. They are also seven points behind Nuneaton, the next side up in the bottom four. But Kittrick insisted his team will be undaunted.

He said: "We know we have got to claw it back and we will be positive."

Liam Watson's sacking, which led to Kittrick's appointment, was blamed partly on falling crowds as well as poor results.

Kittrick said he is determined to get attendances up by playing an attractive brand of football – and believes that in turn will help the Bucks in their battle against the drop.

He said: "When I went to Guiseley the crowds were about 250 and when I left (six years later) there were 700-800 and we were playing good football.

"I just want to get people playing, enjoying their football and I want supporters to come here with a smile on their faces and enjoying what we put on for them.

"We know the situation we are in. We will endeavour to get out of it and it will be a massive plus for us to get the ground full.

"When you have a big crowd behind you it can put points on the table. It is like having a 12th or 13th man on the pitch at times if they are that vocal.

"We are going to have good days and bad days, but let's get behind the team."

Midfielder Kristian Platt had been mooted to return tomorrow but Kittrick believes his hamstring injury will now keep him out for another week.
