Telford's Watson is all set for return to lucky club
AFC Telford boss Liam Watson is relishing a return to a happy hunting ground tomorrow when his team travel to Workington in the Skrill North.
The Bucks' chief has not lost against the Reds home or away in five matches as a manager – and also recalls scoring at Workington's Borough Park early in his playing career with Warrington.
Watson said: "It's always been a place I have enjoyed. I have had good results, lots of narrow wins and I'd take another of those tomorrow.
"I also remember scoring as a young lad at Workington when I was playing for Warrington. It has always been a relatively lucky ground and lucky club for me."
Should his fortune continue, the Bucks could find themselves in the division's play-off places by tea time tomorrow. But he is aware that history is likely to have no bearing on the result.
Telford will start as favourites against a team currently second-from-bottom of the division, and which lost both its manager Darren Edmondson to Barrow in midweek and chairman Humphrey Dobie who stepped down.
But Watson insists there is no chance of his side underestimating their beleaguered opponents this weekend.
Telford will go into the match having failed to win any of their last three games in league and cup, all of which came against lower-half opposition in Worcester City and Leamington.
And he said: "Workington has been a nice hunting ground for me but that counts for nothing come 3pm on Saturday.
"You can see from the last game we played you can't underestimate anyone. Darren's left and he had done a great job up there but on the flip side they went to Oxford on Tuesday night, they had quite a few of their bigger players missing and they got a good draw so you have got to give them credit and appreciate it's not going to be easy."
Watson will though be able to travel with a virtually full-strength side this weekend,
One notable absence will be Mike Phenix who missed last weekend's 2-1 defeat to Leamington after collapsing at work last Thursday.
But following a week of recuperation, Watson has confirmed that Phenix will return to training next week.
