Shropshire innings is forfeited to set up run chase
Shropshire were this afternoon chasing 281 to beat Berkshire and boost their Minor Counties title hopes.
The final day of the clash at Whitcurch had begun with a draw looking likely after the entire second day was lost to rain.
But after the visitors were bowled out for 225, Shropshire then forfeited their first innings, before Berkshire declared on 55-1 second time around as both sides looked to force a result.
By mid-afternoon Shropshire had progressed to 54-2.
The hosts are hoping to keep pace with Western Division leaders Cheshire, who have set Devon a target of 278 in their game at Bowden.
Shropshire currently sit second, one point adrift, with Wales another point further back in third.
Earlier, seamer Ben Sanderson completed a seven-wicket haul as Berkshire were bowled out.
The visitors had resumed on 190-7 but added just 11 more to the total before Sanderson had Matt Carter trapped leg before for just eight.
Gurveer Singh struck 10 before being bowled by Dan Bowen, before Sanderson ended the long resistance of Richard Logan (67 from 158 balls) to bring the innings to a close and finish with figures of 7-50.
Simon Macey top scored with 27 for the visitors in their second innings before being bowled by James Ralph, ahead of a declaration after 21.1 overs.
