Telford Tigers tell Joe Henry to leave after strike
TRS Telford Tigers have told Joe Henry he has no future with the EPL outfit after the frontman went on strike during a 5-3 defeat to Bracknell.
The 23-year-old, who joined the newly-reformed side from Coventry Blaze in 2010, refused to play during the third period after a tactical re-shuffle by player-coach Tom Watkins.
Watkins confirmed Henry was released before yesterday's 7-2 thumping at Peterborough Phantoms, which completed a weekend of misery for the Tigers.
"That was unacceptable and Joe really let his team-mates down. I decided to change the lines around and for whatever reason Joe decided he didn't want to play," said Watkins, who allowed Henry to double up on a two-way deal with former club Coventry during the 2010-11 campaign.
"I take that as being disgusting. Whether a coach or one of his staff tells you something, you get on with it and come and see them after the game.
But I wish Joe well, as I have known him for a long time, and I'm sure he will move on."
Henry's withdrawal from Saturday night's clash at the Telford Ice Rink unsettled his side who had won by a 5-4 margin at the Bees last month.
And, lacking firepower without Henry, the Tigers struggled 24 hours later against second-bottom club Phantoms as they were heavily beaten.
