Boss Andy Sinton is relishing the selection headache he has at AFC Telford United - with five top class strikers fighting for selection.

Andy Brown and Alex Meechan have been established as the first choice pairing so far this term.

But Brown's recent ankle injury has opened the door to the others, and Sinton admits he has terrific alternatives in Steve Abbott, Adam Proudlock and James Lawrie.

Abbott got the nod last week in Brown's absence but Proudlock and Lawrie were both in the goals for the 8-1 friendly win over Rocester in midweek — and it was far from clear who would start at Buxton in the FA Cup this afternoon.

"There's no-one really similar in all five of our strikers," said Sinton.

"Browny has got a bit of everything, Meechan probably hasn't got the goals his performances have warranted but he's been a fantastic foil and he's stretched teams with his pace.

"Proudlock's a natural goalscorer, he'll score goals whatever level he plays, Steve Abbot gives you physical presence and James Lawrie can play as a deep-lying striker.

"They all give me options and that's good — though maybe not for them as I can only pick two."

Sinton has also urged those in his squad still waiting for their chance to shine to keep working and be ready when their time comes.

"I've been there — I've been one of those players where you're on the sidelines and the team's doing well so you can't see your way in," he said.

"But football's a really strange game. You get your chance when you least expect it, and when you least it expect it you've got to be ready."
