Mark Holland, dropped to reserve for Shropshire's county championship opener against the Potteries tomorrow led the way with a 21-8 card as the Roaders stunned Ifton 9-5 (agg 12).

Meole Brace, desperate to be considered title contenders, won 8-6 at Archibald Worthington, despite Les Markham's 21-12 best return to action for the Whitchuch club.

And St Georges won a cracking game at promoted Bowring 8-6 (agg 12) thanks to mainly to big wins by Chris Halford (21-5) and Alan Palin (21-9).

Wem USC are second after blitzing the Bayley 13-1 (agg 74), Newport looked solid in seeing off Wrockwardine Wood 11-3 (agg 27) and Ford won their bottom of the table tussle with Bylet 10-4 (agg 60).
