Shropshire bowls star Callum Wraight is taking his game overseas – to play on the international stage.
The 22-year-old from Shrewsbury has been invited to play in a big name competition to open a new artificial crown green on the Algarve in Portugal next month.
Wraight will be heading to Amendoeira, near Silves, from March 16-20 along with greats of game like Graeme Wilson, Brian Duncan, Noel Burrows, Glyn Cookson and new Wrockwardine Wood signing Ant Aldridge.
The 16 players invited on the all-expenses paid trip will be competing for a £1,000 first prize from a total prize fund of £3,000 in the Iberian Inauguration Cup.
"It's a massive honour to be playing in the first event on the green," said Wraight.
"Jim Parker (manager of the Waterloo complex) was asked to select the field and it's fantastic to be in there.
"I'm led to believe that we will be able to play in some flat green comps as well so it should be a really good week."
Wraight won three big money titles last year, featured in the Champion of Champions and accumulated £7,500 in prizemoney.
