In a 10-year reign that saw her win the world all-around title an unprecedented three times, as well as countless Olympic and European medals, Khorkina became the most recognisable international gymnast since Nadia Comaneci. Khorkina, who is now vice-president of the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation, will be at Lilleshall National Sports Centre - the home of British Gymnastics - on September 19 and 20 for a series of clinics and meetings. At 5ft 5ins she is exceptionally tall for a top female gymnast but she developed an elegant and innovative style of her own that kept her at the top until 2004, when she quit while still ranked No 1 in the world on asymmetric bars.

That mantle then passed to Britain's Beth Tweddle, the current world bars champion.

Khorkina, who is now vice-president of the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation, will be at Lilleshall National Sports Centre - the home of British Gymnastics - on September 19 and 20 for a series of clinics and meetings.

During her time in Shropshire she will be passing on tips to gymnasts from a number of British Gymnastics clubs as well as children from local schools.

She will later be confirmed as patron of Pinewood Gymnastics Club in Berkshire.
