Newport kept up their promotion challenge with a 41-8 rout of struggling Camp Hill in Midlands 2 West.
The comfortable victory at the home of the Birmingham side proved very timely, with league leaders Burton slipping to a surprise defeat at home to Newbold.
Burton had won all seven before Saturday, but are now only two points ahead of third-placed Newport - Kenilworth sandwiched between them, above the Shropshire side on points difference.
Delighted coach Ginge Wills declared: "On a perfect day for open rugby we scored some brilliant tries.
"It would have been nice to have put a few more points on the board in the last quarter, but we would certainly have settled for winning by 33 points before the game."
The Fishes ran in six tries - fly-half Nick Hillard, winger Paul Buttery (2), full-back Marc Millward (2) and Alex Bristow all getting in on the act. Jamie Simpson kicked four conversions and one penalty.
The margin of victory could have been even greater as they created a series of openings in te latter stages.
The men from Forton Road dominated territory and possession, but perhaps because they still tried to play at 100 miles an hour, a number of mistakes crept in.
This lack of composure saw them unable to add to their 34-8 advantage until the last minute when Millward burst through for his second try of the afternoon.
