Major delays on Midlands trains to London after derailment hits services
Rail passengers heding to London were facing major delays today after a train derailed after striking a landslip near Watford Junction station.
It caused delays to services in and out of London Euston.
There were no reports of any injuries after the 6.19 service from Milton Keynes to London Euston came off the track at around 7am.
A spokesman for Network Rail said a "small portion of the train became derailed but remained upright" after it "struck a landslip".
He confirmed that no-one has been hurt.
"Emergency services and Network Rail engineers were on site and passengers are being transferred to continue their journeys," he added.
"Initially, all lines of the West Coast main line at this point were blocked but two of the four lines reopened at about 8am and services have resumed."
British Transport Police said officers were called to reports of a landslide at the Hunton Bridge Tunnel near Watford. They are working with fire and ambulance services at the scene.
A spokesman for London Midland told the Press Association: "There is a train derailment at Watford Junction - it is the 6.19 service from Milton Keynes to London Euston.
"It happened near the tunnels at Watford Junction station - there are no reports of any injuries."
He said that because of where the incident happened, there will be disruption to services in and out of London Euston for at least most of the morning.
The accident happened as torrential rain caused travel chaos across parts of England.
