5 strange things that perfectly sum up the first day of E3
The video games convention can be a mad, exciting and scary place.

The show floor of E3 2017 is finally open, meaning the 50,000 or so attendees can now get up close with all the big new titles announced.
But sitting in front of a screen and playing the latest Call Of Duty is just a tiny part of the E3 experience.
The booths themselves are adventures, as are the inevitable queues in order to get hands-on with almost anything. And then there’s the costumes and wacky props used to grab attention.
It’s a wild place to be. Here are some of the best things we saw on day one.
1. Be in the game
It appears that these days, playing games isn’t quite enough – people want to be in them.
That’s arguably one of the reasons virtual reality is starting to take off, and, while there’s plenty of that at E3, other methods of enabling attendees to feel like their digital heroes are also in use.
As you can see above, it’s now possible to (almost) leap for gold rings like Sonic the Hedgehog.
2. Monstrous booths
With Monster Hunter and Shadow Of Mordor among the games on the floor this year, it does mean the monster numbers feel significantly higher than usual.

It’s a tough call as to which stand has the edge, but the Mordor booth does also include a replica of the Black Gate to Sauron’s kingdom, which might just swing it.
3. Monstrous queues
It’s also the first time E3 has decided to let in the public in large numbers – 15,000 tickets were reserved for the average gamer.
It’s great for those lucky enough to have tickets, but it has meant the queues in and around the various booths were close to unbearable at times.
4. Call Of Duty is well and truly back
Among the big games on the floor is Call Of Duty WWII, the blockbuster franchise’s return to its roots of 20th century combat.
The new multiplayer section of the game is being demoed, and it is one of the best in years with a new class system based on real military divisions as well as a range of stunning European settings.
Hopes are suddenly a lot higher for the full game, which is out in November.
5. A good costume makes you very popular

There’s nothing the fans on the E3 show floor love to see more than a great costume, and an early candidate for best in show was God Of War’s Kratos, who was spotted skulking the halls on day one.
As long as the giant serpent from the God Of War doesn’t appear next, everything will be fine.
