It hopes to have the first prototype ready by the end of the year.

Airbus is believed to be close to testing its latest electric aircraft which it says will be as cheap as taking a taxi.

Uber is working on a similar project for flying taxis that it hopes to have in place in Dallas and Dubai by 2021.
The aerospace firm has told Business Insider it believes journeys in their craft will be as cheap as using a taxi – quoting pricing of between $1.50 and $2.50 per mile.
The Airbus design will be able to fly for around 62 miles on a single battery charge, using units which will be swappable, Airbus says.
The company hopes to have its first prototype – which will have a lower flight range of 31 miles – operational by the end of this year.

The final version of the craft could be ready by 2020, however the firm is still waiting on regulatory approval from the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).
The single seater vehicles will use a series of rotor blades to take off and land vertically, with users able to summon the crafts to helipads via an app.
The crafts themselves will use Lidar and cameras in order to stay on course.
