The workforce of the Salopian Brewery in Mytton Oak Road moved out two years ago to new premises in Hadnall to the north of the town as part of a £1.75 million investment.

Now plans have been put forward to Shropshire Council's planning department by a local developer to turn the former site of the award-winning brewery into nine homes with parking.

Salopian Brewery's move allowed the company to expand and potentially double its staff, and also ramp up production of its range of six ales.

A design statement produced by OM architecture of Shrewsbury, which is acting as agent for applicant Adam Smith, said: "This is an application for the erection of nine dwellings, landscaping and associated car parking.

"It includes the demolition of the existing industrial units and garages on land at the former brewery on Mytton Oak Road, Shrewsbury.

"The proposal is for the redevelopment of a redundant industrial unit into high quality residential homes.

"This is a carefully designed scheme to creative an attractive environment for the home owners which also respects and responds to the existing site and neighbouring properties."

The original dairy, which occupied the site prior to the brewery being developed, will be retained and extended.

The design statement added: "The mix of housing will appeal to both families and homeowners requiring small dwellings.

"The existing building structures and surrounding area is currently unsightly and unkempt. The proposal will significantly improve the immediate environment through the removal of unsightly buildings and new landscaping, and provide a high quality residential space for future occupiers."

The new development would be for two four bedroom houses with detached garages, a terraced row of five two bed, one four bed and one three bedroom properties.

The original dairy building will be transformed in to one of the four bedroom houses.

Salopian Brewery made its name for its six beers Shropshire Gold, Oracle, Darwin's Origin, Hop Twister, Golden Thread and Lemon Dream.

It moved to its base in Mytton Oak Road in 1995 before moving on in 2014.
