Planners consult on Telford sugar site proposals
Plans have been unveiled to redevelop Telford's former British Sugar site for homes, shops and sport.
Property developers Northern Trust have drawn up a list of possibilities for the site of the former sugar beet factory at Allscott, near Wellington.
Discussions are taking place between the developers and landowners and it is hoped any project would create a number of jobs.
The developers are now asking local people to give their views on the proposals at two consultation events next month.
A survey has also been sent out to nearby homes.
There will also be a public exhibition for people to discuss ideas with the development team and view the proposals.
This will be held on November 19 at Allscott Sports and Social Club and on November 20 at Admaston House Community Centre in Admaston.
The sugar beet plant closed in 2008 after 80 years. Since then the buildings have been demolished, and despite a marketing campaign the site failed to attract interest for industrial or business use.
A spokeswoman for Northern Trust said: "Proposals for the Shawbirch Road site are at a very early stage in the planning process and nothing has been finalised. However, it is envisaged that the site could deliver a sustainable, mixed use community including affordable housing, new public open space and play facilities, and a business hub including office accommodation.
"There would be substantial investment in the site and local economy. Jobs would be created during the site's construction period and there would be potential employment on site following its development."
The exhibition on November 19 will run from 3pm until 7pm and the November 20 session will run from 1pm until 7pm. Feedback can also be given via www.shawbirchroad.co.uk
