Shropshire Council is expected to discuss a potential move for Shrewsbury's shopping centres at a cabinet meeting in December.

The discussion has been listed to take place in a behind-closed-doors session of the meeting on December 6.

Earlier this year the council confirmed it was discussing its role in the future of the Pride Hill, Darwin and Riverside centres, and that "further work" would take place before it expected a decision to be taken in December.

Speaking at the unveiling of the authority's economic strategy last month the council's chief executive, Clive Wright, said: "We are on the cusp of should we buy back the town centre and make our shopping centre flourish, and make Shrewsbury the county town it should be.

"There's so much we can do if we take control and start to invest."
