A 1991 Mercedes 500 E owned by British actor Rowan Atkinson is set to be sold at auction next month.

The car, which is currently owned by Atkinson, has actually been purchased by the actor twice.

He bought the car from new in 1991, and owned it for four years before selling it on to its second owner. However, 23 years later, the actor decided to repurchase the car again in July 2017, before choosing to sell it again now.

It’s due to go under the hammer at the Classic Car Auctions at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre on May 25.

Gary Dunne, Classic Car Auctions auction manager commented “We are delighted to be offering a car direct from Rowan Atkinson. It has such an unusual story in that he has owned it twice.

“We often have unusual stories and this one is one of those, especially for a celebrity to repurchase his car after such a long period.

“We generally do well with celebrity cars and this car is going to generate a lot of interest, not just because who owned it but also the rarity of the car.”

Described as a ‘real rarity’ by the auction house, it is just 1 of 29 UK cars supplied in left-hand-drive. A 5.0-litre V8 under the bonnet can send the car from 0-60mph in just 5.3 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 161mph.

Supplied with plenty of service history, it also has a fresh MOT and is offered with no reserve – meaning that someone could easily get themselves a deal on a special vehicle. No word on if Atkinson will be trying to buy it for a third time…
