Mercedes-AMG has opened order books for its new GT R Pro. The track-tuned coupe gets a price tag of £188,234 – making it around £40,000 more expensive than a standard GT R Coupe.

The Pro is a hardcore, stripped-out version of that model – adding track-honed components which aim to reduce lap times.

To that end, the Pro’s engine is no different than its siblings – it’s a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 producing 577bhp and a mammoth 700Nm of torque. That’s good for a 0-60mph sprint of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 198mph.

It’s not about straight-line speed, though, as the Pro instead chases track supremacy with a series of lightweight touches, extra downforce and enhanced suspension.

There’s a new aero kit which brings a front apron, a bigger front splitter, louvres on the front wings and fins on the rear diffuser. This all increases downforce for faster cornering.

New suspension with adjustable dampers also features, as well as a limited-slip differential on the rear axle.

There’s also an expensive mixture of high-end creature comforts and track-inspired additions. The ‘Track Pack’ brings a roll cage, fire extinguisher and four-point racing harnesses for the carbon bucket seats, but the ‘Premium Pack’ bolsters this with keyless entry and a high-end Burmeister surround sound system.

Order books for the AMG GT R Pro are now open, topping out the range that kicks off at £104,195 for a base GT.
