Honda has announced plans to electrify its entire European range by 2025

All of Honda’s models sold in Europe will feature electrified powertrains by 2025, the manufacturer announced today.

It builds on the company’s statement two years ago that it was planning to electrify two-thirds of its vehicles by 2025.

Tom Gardner, senior vice-president for Honda Motor Europe, said at the Geneva Motor Show today: “Since we made that first pledge in March 2017, the shift towards electrification has gathered pace considerably. Environmental challenges continue to drive demand for cleaner mobility. Technology marches on unrelentingly and people are starting to shift their view of the car itself.”

It coincided with the reveal of the Honda e Prototype, which provides an idea of what the firm’s first production battery-electric vehicle for Europe will look like.

The company claims that it will be capable of delivering an all-electric range of ‘over 200km’ (124 miles) and charging to 80 per cent capacity from zero in just 30 minutes when using a fast charger. It also features rear-wheel drive, bucking the trend for many electric vehicles, which are traditionally front-wheel drive.

A full production version of the e Prototype is expected to be revealed later this year. Prices in the UK are expected to be between £30,000 and £35,000.
